On behalf of M.O.V.E Book Award we would like to congratulate Jaquan Dease for being selected as the 2012 M.O.V.E. Book Award recipient. During a presentation on behalf of the M.O.V.E. awards committee at Hamden High School to the Black and Hispanic Student Union, Jaquan immediately expressed his interest in attending an H.B.C.U.  He took incredible initiative in  approaching the committee privately to discuss the mission, goals, and mentorship aspects of the award.  Upon receipt of Jaquan’s application we were completely blown away, not only by the quality of his application, but also his essay which explained his reasoning for pursuing higher education with an HBCU.  While at Hamden High Jaquan received awards such as 2011 Student of the Month, acted as President for the Black Hispanic Student Union, and School State Manager for DECA.  Jaquan is clearly passionate and dedicated to his future, therefore M.O.V.E found it fitting to assist him on his pursuit to greatness.

Jaquan embarked on his undergraduate career at Howard University in August 2011 majoring in Mathematics with a minor in Education. M.O.V.E  has bestowed the annual $500 book award to Jaquan and has implemented the M.O.V.E. Alumni Mentoring Program to support and ensure his success throughout his collegiate matriculation.

We wish Jaquan the best in his undergraduate career. GO BISON!
